Buddy Cycle

by Tom
(East Grand Forks, MN)

I stumbled across this bike on Craigslist and thought it might help my wife and I get out and bike more. One of her main hindrances to bicycling is that it's hard to communicate when riding together. This Buddy Cycle made by Buddysports out of Minneapolis Minnesota solves the problem of being able to talk and hear while riding. I would like to restore the bike back to it's former glory and get some good use out of it. I want to restore the seat padding, find information on the optional electric assist feature, and maybe learn more about the company that made it and years of production or total numbers produced. I have been just spinning my wheels with google search's trying to learn more. If anyone knows more about these Quadracycle Tandem Recumbents I'd like to hear from you.

Update on my Budy Cycle research NEW
by: Tom

Update on my post since I submitted it. I found out the electric assist option appears to have been made by the Electric Transportation Company, at least that's what the ETC rack on the back was for. At one time you could buy a system that mounted to the rack and was engaged like a brake grip is used. There was a friction wheel that would be engaged when you squeezed the clamp and if the bike was going 3 MPH or more, would propel you along up to 12 MPH. From what I learned from the Electric scooter company, they have not been available for over 10 years but began sales in 2000 so it lines up with the researched manufacturing start of these unusual bikes. Still no luck on duplicating the seat covers so will make It a winter project for my wife to sew new ones using the old ones for patterns.
